The Maker’s Child is a 501(c)(3) special needs ministry in Marshall County, Alabama. We provide support and activities for families of children with physical, developmental, mental, emotional, or medically fragile conditions — through the local church, one family at a time.

Mission
To come alongside local churches so that children with special needs are known, included, and celebrated — and their families find real support and real rest.
Vision
To open the first Pediatric Palliative Care Home in the State of Alabama — The Maker's Child Haven — a home-away-from-home with skilled nursing care for medically fragile children and true respite for their families.
It started with one respite night in 2014.
The first Maker’s Child Respite Night was hosted at The Fellowship in 2014. More than 128 respite nights later, the ministry has grown into something Marshall County families count on every month: care during Sunday and Wednesday worship at partner churches across the county, a monthly Friday-evening respite night at alternating churches, and a dedicated sensory respite hosted at the same location each month for continuity and familiarity.
Along the way we built an all-inclusive playground on the grounds of First Baptist Church of Albertville, designed for children of every ability. And now we’re working toward our biggest step yet — the Haven.

A Friday-evening respite at alternating churches, plus a sensory respite by invitation on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. No age limit, no cost to families.

The Maker’s Child has partnered with the National Center for Pediatric Palliative Care Homes and Children’s Respite Homes of America to begin thoughtful conversations with Alabama lawmakers — creating a pathway for overnight respite care in a home-like setting for children with complex medical conditions. The Haven will offer skilled nursing care and a multi-disciplinary, holistic approach, so families have a trusted respite provider and a much-needed time of rest.

We are unashamedly rooted in the Christian faith: every child is knit together by their Maker, and caring for families of children with special needs is worship, not charity. The welcome is for everyone — you don’t have to share our faith or attend a church to be served here.
